Tech Workshops

A series of workshops using Lens Studio to teach Augmented Reality for Hispanic Heritage Month

We are committed to crafting resources and tools that equalize technology for diverse audiences. For Hispanic Heritage month, Lucid Skies put on successful Lens Studio workshops where participants were able to learn how to craft their own Augmented Reality experiences.

The classes were offered across North America, including Los Angeles, California, USA where we crafted the workshops for our Latino audience and in Toronto, Ontario, Canada where we taught an Indigenous audience including Ojibwe, Mohawk, and Cree. Our courses included both teachers and students.

Why it’s important

Hispanic and Indigenous students get access to technology long after being cutting edge, causing systemic inequality in the knowledge of new technology skills.

By leveraging the power of Lens Studio and Snap's expertise, these events ignite a sense of creativity and innovation among the participants. Students are encouraged to think outside the box, conceptualize unique AR experiences, and explore novel ways to enhance customer engagement and brand presence for local businesses.

Key take aways

  • Technological Advancement and Cultural Empowerment: Our events brought together augmented reality, education, and community development, highlighting the importance of embracing technological advancements while celebrating cultural heritage. By doing so, we empowered young Hispanic and Indigenous students to be part of the technological frontier while preserving their identity and promoting cultural pride.

  • Equipping Young Students with AR Skills: The events equipped both students and teachers with essential skills and knowledge in augmented reality (AR) technology. By providing them with training in 3D modeling, computer vision, and machine learning, the initiative empowered participants to leverage cutting-edge AR tools for their personal growth and the development of their community.

  • Inclusivity and Equal Opportunities: The workshops embodied the philosophy that technology should be inclusive and accessible to all communities, ensuring that participants become active contributors to the digital economy.
