Super Sisters

A free pocket sized learning tool for BIPOC middle school girls, fusing augmented reality with applied technical education.

Dates: 2023-Present

In collaboration with The STEAM Connection, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering Indigenous youths, we created Super Sisters, a free pocket-sized learning tool for BIPOC middle school girls. This MIT-funded initiative fuses augmented reality with applied technical education, featuring culturally responsive and holistic gamified modules that serve as a virtual mind-palace for learning. Emphasizing youth leadership, approximately 350,000 users, mainly girls aged 13-17, engaged with our mental health AR experiences created for MTV’s Mental Health Action Day. Super Sisters aims to inspire creativity in STEM, culture, and mental health, providing an innovative approach to healthy technology use.

Recognized in MTV’s Metaverse category for its pioneering use of augmented reality to introduce grounding methods to youth through social media, Super Sisters stands out as a groundbreaking educational tool. Leveraging augmented reality technology, the app creates immersive learning experiences, allowing students to visualize and interact with virtual objects in their physical space. With machine learning, particularly computer vision, students can engage in practical simulations, gaining a deep understanding of complex STEM concepts through real-world interactions. Super Sisters is not just an educational app; it's a transformative platform prioritizing creativity, art, mental health, and youth empowerment.

Description:
